Midwifery

My care follows the standard obstetric schedule, but our appointments are scheduled to last over an hour. During that time I will check your urine, monitor your weight gain, assess the baby's growth, check your fundal height and listen to the baby's heartbeat. I will also check your pulse and blood pressure and discuss nutrition. We will discuss how you are doing and feeling as you move through this transition into motherhood. We will talk about what you are doing to take care of yourself and how to nurture yourself physically and emotionally. We will review choices that you will get to make during your pregnancy and immediately surrounding the birth. Basic lab tests will be ordered and if additional services are needed such as ultrasound or genetic testing, I can arrange that as well.

I will be your primary care provider at your birth. After the birth I will remain in your home until I am assured your body is recovering nicely from its amazing journey, nursing has been established, clean up is completed, and everyone is fed and tucked in for some rest.

I will see you in your home 24 hours after the birth, three days after the birth, one week after the birth, and two weeks after the birth. These visits will be an opportunity to check your body, for you to ask qeustions about the labor and birth, about your postpartum healing and specifics about your baby. I will continue to closely observe the baby and monitor his or her weight gain. At six weeks, we will see eachother in my office to complete my care for this birth and this baby.
